Description:
Over the last few years my artwork has grown by leaps and bounds. I have been fortunate in finding fulfilling projects that have allowed my process to naturally develop from an object-based practice to a more experiential one. I have honed my skills and stayed true to my vision, even when the bank account and my other obligations seemed to be pushing in another direction.
Artwork like Susurrations (pictured above) is significant in that itincorporated three ways of working: collecting, physically laboring, and public interaction. The quiet, introverted part takes place in the studio: collecting, categorizing, and cleaning the materials, planning for a piece. During the installation I rely heavily on the labor of volunteers who give their time generously and, upon occasion, lend their expertise when original plans don't quite work out. Finally, the element of public interaction, the way that visitors so obviously respond to being able to touch and add to the final artwork, is gratifying.
In 2015 there is an opportunity for me to embark on an equally exciting project in Riga, Latvia. The proposition came to me via the American Latvian Artists Association and the American Latvian Association%u2019s Cultural Fund, both of which are offering financial support to the project upon approval in Latvia. While the conversation is well underway, it is imperative that I make an exploratory trip to Riga this winter to finalize my project, to secure the support of cultural and government partners in Latvia. I am reaching out to you today to ask for your support: a contribution in any amount would be much appreciated.
Mission Statement:
To raise $3000 to cover the cost of travel and seed money for a project in Riga, Latvia
